Here is the 3d print of an engagement ring that we recreated for a client. Their customer came in wanting to recreate their original ring as close as possible so they could update the mounting. Their ring on the right was getting pretty thin in certain areas and it kept requiring repairs to have it maintained.
For the new ring, overall it’s the same size and shape, but we made the walls and prongs slightly thicker in order to ensure they would have little to know issues in the future. Most mass produced pieces use as little metal as possible, which means paper thin prongs. Not something most will take note of at purchase, but it’s something they learn about a year or two down the road. A correctly made ring should last decades, if not a life time. And with very little maintenance required.
For this order we were only asked to do the modeling and printing. Our client's jewelers will be taking the customer's stones from their original ring and setting them into the new mounting.
