Here is a 14k yellow gold custom nugget-pattern men’s ring we helped a client design in Texas.
The customer wanted what we would call a traditional nugget-style ring, but at this point, it might be considered old school because this technique isn’t really used much anymore. However, we’ve modernized the way we achieve this type of textured finish. For this kind of ring, we first model and print the base textured ring. After casting, we go back in and refine the pattern by hand using traditional carving techniques.
These types of rings are interesting to make nowadays because they can’t really be designed in just one way. This combination of methods results in a superior final product. Yes, you can still sculpt and model the wax by hand, but you end up with a more organic finish. On the other hand, you could model and texture the full band, but the final piece would look too rigid, and the casting would lack depth, as certain areas wouldn’t have that true bright-cut look.
It’s just one of the techniques we’ve perfected over the years, and customers seem to agree, as they always get compliments on their rings.
